My Tribute to Mad Magazine
I used to work as an advertising artist for a company called Building #19 which had a chain of retail stores throughout the New England area. One year as April Fool's day was approaching we in Advertising were discussing what would be best for our circular cover that week and decided on a tribute to Mad Magazine's famous fold-ins they use on their inside back covers. So I set to work on this one below - took about an hour to plan and sketch out, and then a few more hours to turn into a final product. In being folded so that the tips of the bold black arrows touch, the paragraph on the lower middle section of the page becomes a new message and the elaborate picture becomes the face of Jerry, the Building #19 mascot who is known by long-time customers and readers of the company's weekly circular all over New England. Great fun.
